Our story:
We met while working together at the Buckle (retail store in the Tyler mall). The first night we met there was a team meeting and we needed to close the store gate before the meeting could start. Lindsey asked how to close the gate and Gary, being the jokester that he is, told her that she needed to twist the arm on the manequin and it would close. Obviously, that didn’t close the gate but it sure got a laugh out of everyone. Over our time working together a true friendship blossomed, Lindsey quit working at the Buckle after her seasonal time ran out and she ended up leaving the Tyler are and going to Texas Tech. Through the next 2 years we stayed in contact via random phone calls every 2-3 months or so and through different relationships with other people. We genuinely cared about each and really wanted the best for each other. In January 2004, Gary made an unexpected trip to Denton to visit one of our mutual friends and we ended up hanging out that night and falling in love. We were both single, the timing was right and the admiration we already had for each other started an incredible relationship.
Gary proposed November 2004 and Lindsey said yes! We picked November 19, 2005 as our wedding date because November 19th is the birthdate of both of our mothers and it was on a Saturday, we were married at Green Acres Baptist Church and cherish every moment of our wedding day. It was such a beautiful day, perfect weather and we got to spend the day with all of our family and friends to help us celebrate.
After the wedding we lived in a small apartment in Lewisville for a few months until we had saved enough money to purchase our first home. Our first home was in Carrollton – it was a small, charming home and we lived there for about a year and half. We sold it and were able to purchase our next home in Heath, TX. We love the Heath/Rockwall area and enjoy being closer to our families… we are about 45 minutes from Gary’s family and an hour and 15 away from Lindsey’s family. It’s very nice to be closer to family but still be close to the metroplex too.
About Gary (written by Lindsey):
Gary is my best friend, truly my soul mate and he makes me feel so special. I thank God for him in every one of my prayer’s and I pray that the relationship we have now continues to blossom through the years and that we can look back in 50 years and have made some of the most incredible memories ever.
We are complete opposites on some things and identical twins on others. Gary is the most patient person I know with a truly kind heart. He doesn’t get ruffled up about much, there are very few times when I have seen Gary really “mad” about anything — he is very passive and just enjoys going with the flow. Gary is incredibly funny – he has a lot of wittiness and can make the most boring event fun with his presence. He can talk to a wall, and would rather talk to a wall than be alone.
He can make friends with anyone and talk to complete strangers at the grocery store, it’s also impressive that not only can he talk to strangers he can make a true connection with a stranger by finding something common to talk about. He has a true passion for baseball and autographs and spends most of his free time with his buddies going to sporting events or chasing famous autographs. Gary can out-shop me on any day — he loves to be fashionable and put together and enjoys finding good deals, he also inherited a love for thrift stores from his Grandmother and can always find something cool at one of those stores. Although he likes to be fashionable, he is also a “man’s man” and can hang with the best of them talking about sports, fishing and other manly chatter. Gary loves animals (thank goodness) – he and I both have a soft spot for furry babies and he doesn’t mind a little dog hair or doggy breath. Gary has a drive to succeed and can do anything he puts his mind to with focus and determination. He’s got a smile that can light up a room and eyes that touch my soul. He rarely talks negatively about anyone, he likes to see the positive in people and in his job strives to bring our the best in everyone he encounters. Mostly, he makes me want to be a better person.
Gary is handsome – he is confident, acts chivalrous and treats me with the great respect. He lets me walk in front of him, holds the door open, makes me feel special on random days and he talks sweetly about me when I’m not there – which means the most to me.
To sum him up, he is trusting, outgoing, compassionate, patient, creative, funny, loving, and thoughtful. Above all else, he’s my incredible husband, my best friend and the man I want to start a family with. I love that he upholds our marriage with honor and respect and upholds the commitment and vows we made to each other each day. As we get ready to welcome Baby Spraggins into our life I know that Gary will be the best Daddy ever and will be the best role model for our children.
About Lindsey (written by Gary):
Have you ever had a dream and you didn’t want to wake up? Well being married to Lindsey is that dream. The good news is that I don’t have to wake up. When I was a little boy my parents used to pray for my wife, and I have to say that God answered their prayers by putting Lindsey in my life. The day I met her in Tyler, Texas at The Buckle I had a feeling that she was something special.
I was right about her way back then and she continues to amaze me now. Lindsey is the smartest person I have ever met. She knows the answer to so many things that I can’t even start to tell you about. When I attended School at UNT there were many times that I would go to her for help on problem and I know she would know the answer but she would not just give it to me. She made me work for it. This is one reason I am so in Love with her. Not only is she the MOST BEAUTIFUL person in the world but she has some real smarts!
Some funny things about Lindsey is that when she says she is hungry, it is to late… The bomb is about to go off. Have you ever watched a gas gage go up when you fill your car up…Well with each bite of food her gage goes from empty to energy! I think sometimes I get to her when I pick at her for being hungry. Another funny about her is that she can never get numbers, dates or sizes right. If she is talking about something that was 3 months long it will come out of her mouth as 6 months long. We LOL about that all the time.
Maybe I should turn in my “Man Card” on this one but Lindsey is the fixer upper in our house. What I mean by that is if something (that requires real work) needs to be done around the house she is not afraid to do it. I on the other hand am terrified to do it (see story about Christmas lights and electrocuting myself). Lindsey is the most talented person I have ever met. She can take the most amazing pictures I have ever seen, do things on the computer that I have never heard of, sing the words to songs from the 1950′s to current day that I have never even heard, be the sweetest fur-mommy to our sweet little fur-babies, treat me like a King, crack some funny jokes, enjoy sports (on TV or in person), play some mean Xbox, and even get me that special autograph. Lindsey lets me be me and that is really important. I really enjoy having fun and I do not have to be something I’m not around her. There is no other person in this world that I would want to have fun with either. Lindsey is always on top of her game and it makes me better every day.
And one final word about my wonderful wife Lindsey. She has the same Love and drive for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Lindsey is the first person that I have ever been able to pray with out loud. It is a great feeling to know that when it is time to move on to the Big Ball field in the sky that she will be there with me….. I’m sure she will get there first because it takes me a lot longer to get ready than her!!
