It’s been a while since the last post so I figured I would catch everyone up! Lillian Marie Spraggins is here!
She arrived June 8, 2010 at 3:15 in the morning – 6 lbs 12 oz – 19 inches long.
Here is our birth story:
We went to the doctor on Monday, June 7 and they told us we would go ahead and be induced that night at 9 PM. They said we would go through 2 doses of cytotec and then start pitocin around 6 AM – they expected Lillian to make her arrival no earlier than Noon on Tuesday June 8.
I was a ball of nerves all day Monday – scared about the induction. I really wanted her to come on her own. Before we left the house (Gary, me and Mom) we said a prayer that the induction would go smoothly, quickly and that I would have peace during the process.
We got to the hospital at 9 that night and got settled in. We went ahead and let Mom go back to our house (she was watching our furbabies).
10: 08 PM – The nurse started the cytotec. About 15 minutes later the contractions started progressing to 5 minute intervals and were getting very strong.
1:30 AM – I opted to go ahead and get some pain medicine (stadol) – they started the Stadol through the IV – which allowed me to sleep for about 30 minutes when all of a sudden my water broke.
2:08 AM – Dialated to a 3. Gary called my Mom and his parents and updated everyone. Immediately the contractions became SO INTENSE – I really had to focus on breathing through them each time even with the Stadol pain medicine (which didn’t seem to help the pain much but instead just made me “loopy”)
2:10 AM – The nurse ordered the epidural (the epidural doctor lives 20 minutes away).
2:27 AM - Dialated to an 8. I remember the nurse telling Gary “Yea, you better call everyone because I think we will be having a baby soon.” Gary called our parents and updated them. The nurse and Gary helped me breath through contractions and not push because our OB was not there yet.
2:40 AM – Labor pains are still awful — I keep telling everyone that I HAVE to push NOW. Dialted to a 10. They keep telling me to breath through the contractions and not to push — to just keep breathing. The contractions were about a minute apart at this point.
2:45 AM – The epidural doctor got there and put in the epidural… as soon as he walked out the room the OB doctor walked in (3:00 AM) and I FINALLY started pushing. Epidural was pointless because it didn’t take effect before she arrived, felt everything.
3:15 AM – 3 pushes & she was here – 6 lbs 12 oz of pure love. 19 inches long with a head full of beautiful auburn hair.
This beautiful baby girl who I had carried in my womb for 9 months was finally here. I can’t even begin to explain the range of emotions I felt at that second. Every bit of pain experienced during the labor was worth it…. I couldn’t stop staring at her with amazement that Gary and I had created her out of our love.
Gary was an incredible coach — he talked me through the labor and was there for me every second of the way. We cried together and embraced our sweet baby girl Lillian – I will never forget this moment. I will never forget anything about that moment, the things we said, the tears we shared, and the beautiful baby that had just arrived that we were holding.
I thank God for moments like this, for miracles and for answered prayers.
Welcome to the world baby girl — you have 2 parents who love each other so much and now you are part of our family! We love you Lillian!
