Flower Nesting

I might have a slight obsession on my hands…. I can’t stay away from Lowe’s Garden Section. I’ve been up there 5 times now and each time I come home with a load of flowers, flower bulbs or some yard thingy.

Most people get a nesting feeling to nest the inside of their house (which I have experienced too … organizing random closets, cleaning random things, getting prepared, being more clean) … but I would say that the bulk of my nesting urgencies have been outside.

The good news is – I’m done for now. I did just about all the work I could do on Saturday in the yard and got it just the way I want it… everything is in the ground and in it’s place.

Now I just have to wait for everything to bloom!

At one point, Gary told me that I should probably stop buying more flowers because “they’re all going to die anyway”…. he knows my history with flowers.

There was an awkward silent pause after he made this statement.

He’s probably right… but I have hope this year… so I looked at him with a crazy pregnant lady look and said “I don’t know why I have this urge to plant all of these flowers, but I can’t help it — so would you help me plant these flowers please?”

Then we laughed… and he helped me plant the flowers.

If you’re interested in planting some plants – here is a helpful website where it will tell you you’re planting zone and what plants are successful in that zone:

Here’s what I picked up this weekend:

Back yard:

Holly Fern

Caladium

Elephant Ears

Dahlia

Pink Bronze Leaf Begonia

Lanata (Anne Marie color)

Drummond’s Pink Phlox Trailing Perrenial

Fides Kalanchoe (Pink)

Diascia (Pink)

Morning Glory Vines (for the trellis)

Gerbera Daisy

Tulips (Red Tipped) – already in pots

Front yard:

Red Bronze Leaf Begonia

Fides Kalanchoe (Red)

Here are some pictures:

Geraniums (backyard, in a planter)

I LOVE geraniums — one of my favorite flowers.

Kiki

Our trees are blooming:

Gerbera Daisies

Fides Kalanchoe (Red)

Hyancinths — these smell amazing!

Tulips and Hyancinths together — the tulips are just about to bloom!

These are all of the “before” pictures… I’m going to take another set in 3 months and see if we have anymore blooms – I’m really hoping these all look alot better in 3-6 months

(I’ll keep you updated):

Lantana in the far back corner… this area gets full sun and these are supposedly the most hardy plant in Texas -

Lowe’s had tons of them, so we’ll see how they turn out.

Back left flower bed (has hostas, lily of the valley, astilbe and some other bulbs)

Middle Flower bed…

Has lilies, hardy phlox, gladiolus, peony

Far right flower bed:

Has elephant ears, caladium, hostas, lily of the valley, astilbe and holly fern

PS – Forgive the sickly looking shrubs — they were both infected with white flies so we are on a treatment plan and hope to nurse them back to health.

The trellis flower bed has:

lilies, gladiolus, begonias, dianthus, morning glory, dahlias

And a Kiki

Garage flower beds:

gladiolus, begonias, daylilies

I hope my nesting inspires you to get out and plant a few flowers… it’s amazing what a few flowers can do to make you feel “springy” :)

The next time you get one of those nesting urges, you can just come over to my house ok? :)
