Before I start I should say that Gary told me to get some rest today. But when I woke up and saw how beautiful it was outside I just couldn’t stay in bed all day. I had to get some Vitamin D.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… I didn’t inherit the green thumb that my Mom has. She can make anything grow. And not just grow, but grow big, strong and beautiful.
Even with all of my failed attempts I have the slight hope that one day something I put in the ground will grow big, strong and beautiful. So, I’m trying it again this year.
This year I wanted some color in the front yard. The previous owners planted a lot of shrubbery and I love the shrubs (especially since they’re low maintenance) but I want some color and blooms this year.
So, this morning I visited Lowe’s. I love Lowe’s. I love the smell of Lowe’s… the mix of pesticide, rubber and lumber. It’s a smell unlike any other, very distinct, and I love it.
It’s the smell of “I can do it!”.
I visited the flower section and picked out some bulbs for the front yard and and the back yard.
Here’s what I picked for the front yard:
I got a few packs of each. Can you tell I’m on a lily kick?
Here’s what I picked for the back yard:
It’s ok… go ahead and laugh…. I know I’m taking a chance on the peony. I doubt it will grow, but I had to try it… I even laughed when I put it in the buggy.
I obviously love lilies and I love peonies and would LOVE to have some in my back yard so I’m going to give it a shot.
I will be shocked though if the peony actually blooms.
I didn’t work too hard. I only spent about two hours and got them all planted. That was about enough for me and my belly.
I’m sure the neighbors that drove by had to think I was crazy… just wait until you see how big my belly has gotten (should be posting about week 26 tomorrow).
The info packets say that they are “guaranteed” to bloom in early summer or mid-summer.
I’m not holding my breath, but I would love to see some blooms.
I’m thinking I should go buy some tried and true daffodils so that I can guarantee something will come up … those are hardy and seem to always bloom in Texas.
After all of that, I will gladly take my nap now (and dream of flowers).
