I’ve always considered myself a pretty good test taker. I’m the type of person in class that would finish my test first, and not because I was fast, just because I knew that if the answer didn’t hit me… it wasn’t going to.. there was no point in waiting.
Multiple choice are my favorite kind of tests. At my job recently we were given the option to take a personality assessment test.
It’s no biggie, there are no right or wrong answers, it’s just a test to gauge your personality and see what jobs/roles you would be best at.
I love the company that I work for and I love that they want to see their associates succeed – they want to put people in roles that are a good match for the associate and the company.
The only difficult thing about personality assessments is that the answers are usually black and white (there is no gray) and they want you to choose an answer that most closely matches your personality. So, you start to see yourself in a different light… everyone has little quirks about themselves… and no one is completely one way or the other (there’s always circumstances to factor in)… but when you are answering 500 questions with almost the same answer every time you start to think of yourself as only one way. Very weird. But interesting.
So, I took the test and I found myself laughing out loud… literally… when I came to some of the questions. Those of you that know me best will laugh out loud too.
I jotted down a few of the questions and thought I would post them on here for the humor of letting you all guess what answer I chose.
When you go somewhere for the day, would you rather:
a) plan what you will do and when
b) just go
Do you prefer to:
a) plan parties and events well in advance
b) be free to do whatever looks like fun when the time comes
Would you say it generally takes others:
a) alot of time to get to know you
b) a little time to get to know you
Does the idea of making a list of things you need to get done over the weekend:
a) appeal to you
b) cramp your style
Can you
a) talk easily to almost anyone about anything for a long period of time
b) only find a lot to say to certain people who share your interests
Here’s the really funny one for my vacation buddies: In planning a trip would you prefer to:
a) most of the time do whatever you feel like that day
b) know ahead of time what you will be doing most days
In doing something that many other people do, does it appeal to you more:
a) to do it in the accepted way
b) invent a way of your own
Anyway — there were lots of questions, but only a few of them really stuck out to me as truly funny because I have done them (some even in this blog… like making lists). I think if Gary were taking this test, his answers would be the exact opposite of mine… and that’s why we work, we’re very different but both flexible enough to meet in the middle. For us, it would never work if we could both talk for hours to everyone about anything – we’d never get out of the grocery store
, or if we both wanted to be spontaneous all the time (could you imagine?), or if we both wanted to plan the schedule for the trip (lol – this one might be disastrous).
We would be arguing like mother hens all the time if we were just the same.
But, just like I said about the assessment, we aren’t completely one way or the other either – there’s always circumstances to factor in.
Gary isn’t always the extrovert and I’m not always the introvert… there are a few times when we switch places and those times make us appreciate each other more.
It’s our differences that bring us closer together.
It’s just like dancing and that old country song …. “Life’s a dance you learn as you go… sometimes you lead, sometimes you follow…”
Luckily, we love to dance.
